I do homeschooling with my children in the summer months. They are better prepared for the grade they are entering in Sept. I LOVE the School Zone series of workbooks. This book compiles several of the smaller ones. Such subjects covered are math, english, and science. My son is just about done with 2nd grade now. The content of the book was a good reflection on the curriculum for this year.
Well, it’s lacking in social studies, history, and spelling/vocabulary, but it has a decent amount of math and English review, and the science section features easy experiments you can do at home with your little one. A lot of the activities require further explanation than what they give, so be ready to do some actual teaching. It is sufficient for my daughter’s summer review before she starts second grade, but you’re looking for a more holistic education workbook (perhaps home school quality) this isn’t what you need. So basically, better than a coloring book but not quite textbook.
My daughter loves this workbook. I had purchased some Kumon workbooks for summer enrichment. Both of my daughters, ages 7 and 5, found them to be very boring. This workbook is colorful, interesting, and covers a lot of ground. As my daughter says, "it’s so much fun, it’s not like doing work!" I will get more books in this series next summer. The summer after my freshman year in high school, a ton of years ago, I was miserable. I didn’t have any new friends at school, I was having a hard time at home, and I was trying to get through everyday with a smile on my face.
I took a trip with a bunch of people I didn’t know, a 10 day backpacking trip to an island in lake superior. Our guide was a 75 year-old man named Dave. Everyday, Dave read us a chapter from this book, and everyday my respect for him grew.
The day I got off the island I bought the book and began my ten month journey through the scrolls it contained. I’ve followed the instructions, reading each chapter for one month, several times. I’ve worn out several copies and given away several others.
This book profoundly changed my life. Not only am I extraordinarily successful in terms of "material" success, but I am happier than I ever imagined it was possible to be several years ago before I went on that island. Buy this book, follow it’s instructions, and even if you are never the richest woman or man on earth, you will be among the happiest.
I can see why some people will give this book less than 5 stars. If you are looking for fancy smancy selling techniques, look elsewhere. This is not about technique, it is about the habits; the character that makes up a great salesman.
I first started using this book 9 years ago. I would read a chapter a day, three times a day and cheated by reading ahead. More importantly, I began to make these habits my habits.
At that time, my sales were less than satisfactory. Within weeks, my sales climbed and I began winning contest after contest. When people asked me what I was doing, I would pull out this book which I carried with me. Some would leaf through it and giggle. And they wondered why their sales were so low!
I also found that when I got sick of this book and felt like I had mastered it, a short while later, my sales fell again. So did my attitude. So I started the process all over again and you guessed it, I started making sales again, this time faster than before.
Over the years, I have bought many copies of The Greatest Salesman in The World. Some were dog eared and worn out, some I just lost or sometimes I kept one at the office and one at home.
I just started re-reading this book again. Watch out……
For those who enjoy classic business parables like the "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Clayson, "The Baron Son" by Vicky Therese Davis, and "The Alchemist" by Paolo Coelo, they will certainly find interest in "The Greatest Salesman in World."
Like the other works, it has been translated around the world and brought joy to the hearts of many. "The Greatest Salesman in the World" is the first, and by far the best, in Og Mandino’s trilogy including "The Greatest Secret in the World" and "The Greatest Miracle in the World."
As the title would imply, it is the ancient story of the world’s greatest salesperson whose passes on his secrets of success by bequeathing ten scrolls to his protégé.

I hate it when an Author reissues one of their books, or in this case 3 books and does not tell their readers it is a republish under a different name. They get us to buy their book twice. To me that is not fair. I also just pre-ordered the book. I really enjoy this series. I want any new book that comes out about the series. It is the Author, Publisher & stealing from all of us. We already paid once for the book. I don’t want to pay a 2nd time. When I pre-ordered there was no mention of a reissue/republish. This sucks. Don’t bother buying, its a waste of your money, its a ripoff…
I made the mistake of preordering this before there was any story information given. I loved the Men of the Sisterhood and if there was a "new" one in the pipeline I was confident I would enjoy it as well. This morning I opened my kindle and was happy to see this long awaited next installment in the series was downloading. I opened it and there in the book information ALL THREE NOVELLAS IN ONE BOOK! Really? I spent money for what I already had. I WILL NEVER trust a preorder again. It isn’t likely the publisher will run out like in the old days of brick and mortar book stores. Shaking My Head

Dr. Yarhouse’s book is a unique and extremely valuable contribution to the discussion on gender identity, gender dysphoria, and how a local church can engage with people who experience gender dysphoria. The book is targeted towards Christians who are seeking to understand what gender dysphoria is and how to respond to it in a biblical way. However, I expect any person who is interested in the topic will gain something from it.
This book is unique because Dr. Yarhouse possesses a unique combination of several crucial characteristics: (1) formal Christian theological training; (2) formal psychological training; and (3) over a decade of clinical experience in treating people who experience gender dysphoria. This combination of characteristics sets him apart from almost every other Christian who has published something on this topic and makes him one of the most authoritative voices that the evangelical church has for summarizing the latest research and providing thoughts on a way ahead.
I found this book to be incredibly valuable for a number of reasons that I will attempt to summarize briefly.
First, the book’s tone is very gracious and respectful. While this kind of respect should be the standard, in my experience it is not uncommon for people to write about transgender issues with tones of disdain. Throughout the book, Dr. Yarhouse puts in reminders that people who experience gender dysphoria are not any less worthy of respect than the average person, even saying (p. 41) “I acknowledge that we are – all of us – disordered.

I am breaking my book review rule — I am writing in first person. Publications from IVP on sensitive subjects have a way of doing this. I requested Understanding Gender Dysphoria: Navigating Transgender Issues in a Changing Culture (henceforth UGD) about a month before news broke on Bruce Jenner — henceforth Caitlyn Jenner. Shortly after the Jenner nighttime news special I found myself sitting on a porch discussing transgender issues. It did not surprise me how uninformed people (including myself) were about transgender issues. What was surprising was the general lack of interest concerning the issue.
The Internet went wild with defenders of Caitlyn Jenner. Her decision to come out publically put the transgender issue on the map of even the casual American. The church was lurched forward at least a decade on a subject they would rather not know existed. I tried to stay silent as I waited for Mark Yarhouse’s book to be delivered. It went straight to the top of my review stack and I read it quickly despite some rather large, and current, deterrents to reading books.
UGD is a phenomenal introduction to one particular portion of the transgender community — those who suffer from Gender Dysphoria. Key terms are provided for individuals unfamiliar with the issues (11). “No one navigates gender identity concerns in a vacuum” (23) and Yarhouse ensures that readers can identify Gender Dysphoria in a growing culture of many transgender issues.
While searching for resources to assist my parents in understanding transsexuality, I stumbled across this book and decided to give it a read. It’s written from a Christian perspective, and my mother specifically raised concerns about being able to incorporate an understanding of transsexuality into her faith framework. So, I’ve been on the lookout for such resources.
While I don’t exactly hold the same beliefs as my parents when it comes to Christianity, I’m reasonably well educated in Christian doctrines. So, from that perspective – I found that for the most part, this book is fair and compassionate in its exploration of gender dysphoria. I also think it does a decent job of exploring the spiritual and religious ramifications of what it means to be transgender, particularly in the way it presents many different ideas on how these two concepts could be meshed together, and the pro’s and con’s of each. It also gives a good overview of some of the scientific theories behind the etiology of transgenderism in general.
That Said. I have some issues with the book, from what I’ve read so far. If you’re trans and are looking to give this book to someone as a resource, there are some things you need to be aware of.
1. This book makes certain assumptions that I don’t agree with, that I find quite arbitrary, and that I think contradict reality. The most glaring of these is the author’s framing of the idea of "deconstructing sex/gender" – basically, the idea that biological sex is a spectrum rather than a strict dichotomy – as radical, subversive, and "bad". In my mind, the very existence of trans and intersex people seems to demonstrate that there can be gradations in between the poles of male and female. Theodore Cohen is the Ella Fulton Dunham Professor of Sociology and current chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Before coming to Ohio Wesleyan in 1984, he earned his B.A. in sociology from Brooklyn College (1977), and his M.A. (1981) and Ph.D. (1984) in sociology from Boston University. In addition to his teaching career at Ohio Wesleyan, Cohen has taught at a variety of public and private universities including Boston University, Northeastern University, Clark University, and Rowan University. Throughout these different educational contexts, he has found that enthusiasm, humor and determination to engage students to apply sociological concepts to their own lives, has worked with equal effectiveness whether in classes of nine or ninety. He brings those same objectives to his writing. In 1990, Dr. Cohen received The Sherwood Dodge Shankland Award for the Encouragement of Teachers, one of two awards Ohio Wesleyan gives for teaching excellence. In addition to being the co-author of The Marriage and Family Experience since its eighth edition, Cohen is also the editor of a text-reader on men and gender, Men & Masculinity: A Text Reader (Wadsworth 2001).
